The UMassK12 Project offers low cost high-quality Internet services for Massachusetts K12 educators. It features access to a huge variety of educational resources with user-friendly interfaces and strong user support services. The University of Massachusetts Amherst provides the service with the assistance of Holyoke Community College and Franklin County Technical School. UMassK12 is available from dialup access locations in Western Massachusetts: Amherst, Turners Falls, Holyoke
What you need: If you have an IBM or clone, you need at least 4 Mb of memory (RAM), Windows 3.1 or Windows 95, 98, or later. Mac users also require 4 Mb of ram. In either case, you need a 14,400 baud or faster modem and either Netscape or Internet Explorer and related software.
UMassK12 services and features include:

Electronic mail: communicate across town or across the globe
Internet (Usenet) newsgroups, educational mailing lists
Connections to hundreds of libraries, federal information services, science, environment, and weather information sources
