This introductory course in Life Science For Middle School Teachers was built around
seventeen 3-hour sessions, each devoted primarily to hands-on laboratory or field investigations that5 are appropriate for use in middle school science classes.  The course objectives were:
   1)  to update and broaden the backgrounds of middle school science teachers,
        consistent.with Standards 1 – 18 of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks For
       Life Science, grades 6 – 8
   2)  to help prepare teachers for the middle school MTEL exams, grades 5 – 8
   3)  to provide background in the life sciences that would help with recertification and
        the attainment of the Professional License in m idle school mathematics and science
   4)  to provide middle school science teachers with hands-on field and laboratory
        experiences that were readily transferable to their own teaching situations

The program included coverage of the following topics:  Classification of Organisms;
Structures and Functions of Cells; Systems in Living Things; Reproduction and Heredity;
Evolution and Biodiversity; Living Things and Their Environment; and Changes in Ecosystems Over Time.
