Teachers Implementing Imaging and Imagery for Classroom Learning

Abstract of Plan for Implementing Technology into Teaching

Problem statement : I teach k-2 grade students in Rowe. As part of the Science Curriculum Frameworks, students need to be able to:

•  recognize that animals are living things that grow, reproduce, and need food, air, and water

•  compare and contrast groups of animals.

•  record observations and data with pictures, numbers, or written statements

In order to integrate content and skills, I want integrate reading, writing, and math skills into a science unit of study about pets and wild animals.

Motivation : I am interested in the integration of content and skills and in providing a context that is concrete and highly personal for young learners.

Approach : I will introduce the topic of study with a Power Point presentation that incorporates digital (and digitally enhanced) pictures of pets and wild animals in and around my home. I will use the presentation to introduce the topic as well as to establish a model that we can use for future presentations that focus on student's observations of their pets and wild animals in the environment.

Results : I expect that students will:

•  recognize that animals need resources to survive

•  compare and contrast pets with wild animals

•  be able to record data using digital cameras

•  be able to participate in a class production of a power point presentation that incorporates digital pictures

Conclusion : I plan to use the class Power Point Presentation to share with parents as a way of improving communication and showing student work.
