MEETING to Discuss PV STEMNET Response to CITI K-12 RFP
December 3, 2004
Meline Kasparian Professional Development Center
Springfield, MA
The following is a list of comments made by those present:
- Teach to the future
- Consider the team approach – school districts provides the
teams and we provide the PDPs
- The proposal needs to be fairly innovative
- Several of the higher ed institutes offer courses at varying
levels designed to teach the technology
- Suggestions – using hand-helds in the curriculum and include
a research piece
- Provide each participant with a laptop
- Consider using imaging technology in the curriculum such as
digital cameras – teach Photoshop
- (teachers gather multiple images for classroom use)
- Ideas – images with words – how to manipulate those images
in the classroom and on teachers’ instructional websites
- Make it a 3 credit course/45 hours or comparable PDPs
- DOE requires 50 hours in technology for recertification – we
should be in full alignment with DOE technology standards
- Springfield offers an IT Toolkit
- Use open ended pieces of software – hand-helds – data
collection – analyze and report on data
- Consider mobile labs
- Consider doing the program regionally
- Imaging = technology (use in word, excel, powerpoint)
- People and students respond to images – at present there is
not much use of this type of technology in the classrooms
- Some teachers in Springfield are doing this type of
instruction
- Media literacy – outfit teachers with digital cameras
- What are the teachers compelling needs?
- Consider using WebQuest (integrates 2 areas – evaluation and
synthesis of new information)
- Learn to use powerpoint that includes images
- Train the trainer often works to expand the use of
technology
- Photoshop should be part of the plan
- Team approach – outfit 3 teachers with digital cameras and
corresponding software – appropriate licensing needs to be considered
- Purchase a photocopier for each team or school to share
- Approach a camera company for a deal
- Develop learning goals
- How have people been doing this in their classrooms
- Require a fair amount of research
- Need experts in schools – art, graphics
- Current use of pictures – sequence of events
- Should have a universal design – meets the needs of all
learners
- Share information on a website
Agreement by group:
Proposal is creative and innovative
Consider target audience
