Review procedure for STEM Pipeline Fund proposals

Based on the conversation during and after Wednesday’s meeting, it appears that we should follow the process of review that we used last year to select the proposals that will go forward with the sponsorship of the network.

1. Draft proposals should be sent to mort@umassk12.net by Wednesday, December 5. They should address the issues noted in the RFP:

Building upon existing programs which focus on best practices and research (pilot programs will be weighted unfavorably unless applicants demonstrate that no existing program achieves the same objectives)

Continuing the work of current, collaborative Regional Networks and regional initiatives

Concentrating on ways to increase the pipeline of female, minorities and potential first-generation college students who choose to pursue STEM careers

It should also include enough detail so that it is clear what will be done. Give the numbers of students, teachers, and schools that will be involved as appropriate.  We also need a budget that includes evaluation (8-10%) and overhead (not more than 18.6%.)

2. By Thursday, December 6, we will post these documents online at

www.umassk12.net/pvpnet/interest

We will also post a summary table and forms for feedback which will allow for comments as well as for awarding numerical scores.

3. We will post a summary of the feedback reports online by December 14.

4. Another open meeting at HCC, Tuesday, December 18, 1:30 PM, will decide on which proposals will be supported by the Network.
