PRODUCER TAKE BACK: A SOLUTION TO POLLUTION
John McNabb, Clean Water Action
Massachusetts State Representative Mark Carron
Computers and electronic equipment are a major source of pollution
and a big solid waste problem for local communities. But there is
a better solution! Producer Take Back means that companies making
or packaging a consumer product must take physical or financial
responsibility for "taking back" their products after
consumers are finished with them. Momentum is building in Massachusetts
to pass a low requiring Producer Take Back of electronic equipment,
including computers! Come learn about this pioneering approach to
reducing waste, and how you can help make it a reality.
The workshop will be followed by a VIDEO AND DISCUSSION at 12:00
noon:
EXPORTING HARM:
THE HIGH TECH TRASHING OF ASIA
This new video, produced by the Basel Action Network and Silicon
Valley Toxics Coalition, documents the unsafe and unhealthy working
conditions in computer disassembly operations in China.
These presentations are part of UMass Extension's Earth Connection
action conference on the environment and community service.
