Return to Faculty Resources Back To New Teacher Resources

Attention New Teachers!

The spring, 2003 schedule will be posted shortly.

STEMTEC is developing a new teacher support group to provide new teachers with a cohort group and an arena to voice their concerns and needs. The group will consist of K-12 math and science teachers in their first or second year of teaching. The goals of the group include: offering mini grants to supplement the classroom budgets of new teachers, providing workshops in areas deemed important by the cohort group, facilitating connections with workshops and professional development opportunities, and offering scholarships to allow new teachers the opportunity to participate in workshops and professional meetings.

The first meeting of the STEMTEC New Teacher Support Group will be held on Wednesday, Septemper 19th at 6:00 at Five Colleges, Inc. (97 Spring St. in Amherst - we'll send directions when you RSVP.) All first and second year teachers of math and science are invited to attend. The purpose of this initial meeting will be to recognize new teachers in western Massachusetts, to introduce new teachers to STEMTEC, to identify the needs of the new teachers, and to confirm the merits and benefits of choosing teaching as a profession. PDP's will be awarded for attending.
