At SummerMath, girls learn mathematics- they come to understand it for themselves. Whether solving a hypothetical problem, measuring dinosaur tracks, or putting together geometric shapes, girls use their eyes, hands and brains. And, because the curriculum is individually configured according to mathematical preparation and level of competence, every SummerMath student is challenged intellectually.
The students live in college dormitories with undergraduates, many of them Mount Holyoke College students, as resident advisors. RAs give students both support and friendship. RAs also assist with the academic and recreation programs.
In a speaker series, professional women share their experience and expertise in fields ranging from architecture to physics. Midway through the program is a festival featuring music, food, and poetry reading from cultures represented by SummerMath students.
