Reapplication Information for Current Teaching Scholars
2000-2001


Awards

The awards range from $1,000-$5,000 and will be paid over a one or two academic year period.  Awards for the 2000-2001 academic year will be announced in August 2000.  Award funds will be disbursed to students through their on-campus business office, half in the fall semester and half in the spring, shortly after the beginning of each semester.  (Note that all obligations from the 1999-2000 Teaching Scholar Awards must be fulfilled in order to be granted a 2000-2001 award.  You will provide us with this information in your final report due in May.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Student Services Office.)

Eligibility

Reapplicants for the Teaching Scholar Awards must be enrolled, or anticipate being enrolled, at least half time at one of the eight collaborating institutions:  Amherst College, Greenfield Community College, Hampshire College, Holyoke Community College, Mt. Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield Technical Community College, or the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.  You must be continuing on a course of study which may lead to a career in teaching at the K-12 level with an emphasis on mathematics or science.

NSF guidelines require that Teaching Scholars must be U.S. citizens or must be permanent U.S. residents with intent to teach in the U.S.  

Reapplication Requirements - Please pay attention to the changes in procedure

To be considered for a 2000-2001 award, please complete and return, in one package postmarked by April 1, 2000:

              The completed reapplication form.

              Updated official transcript from your current institution.

              A letter of support from your STEMTEC Mentor or a faculty member or K-12 teacher with whom you have worked.  (If necessary this may be sent under separate cover.)

Submit to your on-campus Financial Aid Office by April 1, 2000:

              STEMTEC Financial Aid Form, signed and dated by you, to be filled out by your college financial aid officer, who will then send it to STEMTEC on your behalf.
