STEMTEC Teaching Scholar Activities - Fall 2001

"Geology Field Trip"

Saturday,  October 13, 2001
8:30 am  to 1:00 pm (please be flexible with return time)
Meet at 124 Hasbrouck Lab, UMass, for van transportation and some walking to locations around the valley.

The REAL Jurassic Park!

The Connecticut Valley is the real Jurassic Park. Dinosaurs roamed amid lush tropical vegetation along the shores of lakes teeming with fish. Rising up from the tropical vegetation along the lowlands were majestic volcanoes that periodically belched lava across the landscape. We will visit these scenes in a walk through time near Mount Tom, do some hands on educational activities and finish with a geologic overview of our area as we enjoy a bag lunch picnic atop Goat peak (bring your own Lunch, STEMTEC will provide drinks and chips). Led by Richard Yuretich, professor of geosciences at the university of Massachusetts.

Space is limited; please Register by October 5, 2001
